🧡🧡DUFFY🧡🧡
Duffy is being returned to rescue due to a change in family circumstances, and although she needs an experienced and understanding home, she has a lot of love to give.
Here is a write up from her current family:
“Duffy is an incredibly sweet girl, with such a unique personality, lots of energy and an extremely waggy tail. She is thought to be 4 years old.
Duffy can struggle with trusting people, but with time and patience she soon puts her walls down and realizes the benefits people can bring to her life. It is important to note that she suffers from high anxiety with meeting new people and requires space in these scenarios, both in the home and out on walks. However, fear has never come out at people in the form of aggression, and we don't believe it would.
On walks, she can be frightened of standing objects (wheelie bins, traffic cones, parked vehicles), but she will walk past them, just slightly pulling away.
Duffy has been socialized with family dogs and goes on weekly walks with a dog walker and a group of approximately 12-15 other dogs. It did take Duffy a little time to build trust with the walkers, however she now absolutely loves it. With other dogs (predominantly female), Duffy can be standoffish and has shown dominance. This behaviour has also become a new issue with her fellow resident dog. Therefore, we would recommend Duffy be in a long-term home with no other dogs. However, socialisation with other dogs is fine.
Duffy thrives off routine and likes to know where she should be and what is expected of her at all times, with minimal changes to this routine. Changes in routine can increase Duffy’s anxiety.
Duffy is obedient, goes where directed, has good recall, is fully house trained and does basic commands (sit, bed, lie down etc). She is also crate-trained, and can be left on her own for a decent period of time (she loves to be occupied with a kong full of peanut butter).
As her current owners of 4 years, we are so saddened to be in the position we are, and it is a decision we have deliberated over a long period of time. We cannot express how wonderful Duffy is, however, we are no longer in a position where we can give Duffy the routine she needs, and the time and tools to assist her in overcoming her anxiety. Her new family will need to be able to give her this.
As noted at the start, Duffy is a lovely dog who is affectionate, sweet and loves to be loved. We know that in the right home, she will thrive and become the happy dog we know she can truly be.”
