Wonderful Shandy has been with High Hopes Dog Rescue for nearly 5 years. She originally arrived from Romania, initially fearful and withdrawn from humans. Through patient, compassionate care, the rescue team demonstrated that human touch could be kind. Working at Shandy’s pace, she transformed into the most wonderful, food crazy, affectionate love bug! She enthusiastically greets her human friends seeking cuddles and attention.
At 7 years old, it took 18 months before staff could touch her, and considerably longer to help her explore the outside world. Last November, after extensive trust-building, lead training began. She now enjoys walks tremendously, with her tail wagging throughout, and delights in discovering new scents. This formerly frightened dog has expanded her boundaries significantly.
Her favourite activity is running freely in the secure field with other dogs, regularly checking in with humans for affection and interaction.
Shandy remains cautious and needs time forming friendships. She requires living with another dog in a calm, patient household that understands this transition represents a major life change. With proper love and support, she continues flourishing.
Located in Worcestershire. Adoption fee: £495.

Most of our dogs are in paid kennels while they wait — a real cost, every single day. Monthly sponsorship from as little as £5/month helps cover those costs and means a dog has someone rooting for them. You’ll receive updates and photos for as long as they are with us.
