Worth the Wait: Baloo’s Story

Found starving and deaf in Romania, Baloo waited a year for his forever home. Today the boy every volunteer loved is a cherished, mischievous family member.

Baloo was found starving, delirious and deaf in Romania in January 2024. Every volunteer who met him fell for his cheeky smile and scruffy face, but despite all that love, it took a whole year for him to find his forever home.

When it finally happened, it was worth every day of the wait.

His adopters knew he was the one before they had even met him. When Jane first spotted him online, she couldn’t stop bringing him up in conversation, showing clips and pictures until the decision had rather made itself. The moment they met that cheeky smile in person, it was settled.

Settling in took a little time. There were a few incidents of nipping in the early days, but with time-outs, patience and consistency, Baloo soon outgrew it and began to relax into home life. His mischievous personality came shining through, and he is now a devoted mummy’s boy who keeps the whole household entertained.

These days, Baloo spends his time supervising Jane’s home office, “controlling” the lights with his bark, raiding bins whenever the opportunity arises, and enjoying walks where he proudly shows off his handsome curls and pom-pom bum. He is a properly pampered pooch, insisting the family sits with him while he eats his dinner.

Despite his difficult start, there isn’t a mean bone in Baloo’s body. Just fun, joy and endless mischief. He recently celebrated his first Gotcha Day in a home that can’t imagine life without him.

Some dogs wait longer than others, but the right home is always worth waiting for.
