The Girl Who Learned to Trust: Ava’s Story

Ava arrived as a pup too terrified to be touched. Eighteen months of patient foster care helped her learn to trust, and today she is the adored heart of her forever family.

When Ava came to us in 2021 as a young pup, she was completely terrified of the world around her. She was untouchable, unsure of everything, and would run and hide from anyone she met.

Over eighteen months in foster, with endless patience and care, she slowly learned to feel safe, to trust, and to let people in. Every small step forward was hard won, and every one of them mattered.

In February 2023, Ava bravely stepped into a new chapter of her life. Her new family described her in those early days as complex and sensitive, and those first weeks were some of the hardest they had ever experienced. But they didn’t give up on her, and as time passed and they got to know one another, Ava’s true personality began to shine.

Her caring, goofy and deeply affectionate nature came through, and she has since blossomed into a much-loved, slightly spoilt queen. She knows exactly which spot on the sofa is hers, which chew is the best, and just how to keep everyone wrapped around her paw. She adores cuddles from her favourite people, gently pawing and licking to make sure the attention never stops.

These days, little “Quaver” is a seasoned traveller, joining in on family holidays, happily snoozing under pub tables and proving herself the perfect adventure companion. She may never be the kind of dog who instantly befriends strangers, but that is part of what makes her her, and it is something her family cherishes.

Ava is also devoted to her sisters, often seen giving them a gentle face wash or helping dry them off after puddle splashing. She is the heart of the group, the mother figure, and very often the best behaved too.

From a pup who couldn’t be touched to a girl who is so deeply loved. Ava’s story is proof that with enough patience, even the most frightened dogs can flourish.
